The segment filter in Transit NXT is a very handy feature that allows you to show or hide subsets of a document. As a translator, for example, you can display only the segments with a very high fuzzy match value and translate these first, a procedure that will boost your productivity. Or as a proof-reader or project manager, you may want to first look at the segments that contain translator's queries in the notes window. What makes the feature so incredibly powerful is that you cannot just filter using words or phrases. You can also filter by segment status and use regular expressions, and what's more, you can apply your filters in Global View, i.e. on hundreds of files at the same time. Let us have a look at the different options for filtering segments:

Basic options for filtering segments To view the Quick segment filter dialog box, double click on the icon that appears on the top left corner of the language pair in the source/target language window as show in the screenshot below:

In the Segment status section, Current status refers to the current status of the segment in a language pair whereas Status after import refers to the status of a segment immediately after the file was imported. Select a status or hold the CTRL key to select more than one status. With the Internal repetitions option on the right, you can filter for only internal repetitions or only non-repetition segments based on the option selected. Click on Apply filter to view the filtered segments. Advanced filtering options Let us now take a look at some of the advanced filtering options. As a translator, you can use this option to boost your productivity. In the following example, you can see how you can filter segments with a particular fuzzy match value. To create a segment filter, open the language pair and select View | Segment filter | Create.

Transit NXT displays the Segment filter window. Use the Fuzzy match option in the Segment attributes tab as indicated in the screenshot below:

With this option, you can filter for segments whose pretranslation or fuzzy match quality is in a specific range. By specifying an appropriate range (between 1 –100) you can tell Transit NXT to display only those segments which have a fuzzy match value above, below or equal to the specified value. Let us now have a look at our second example, a project manager who wants to see all the segments with translator's notes. In the Segment attributes tab, select the Notes option and enter the regular expression [a-z]* and also select the Regular expressions option as shown in the screenshot below. Then click on Save. You will be prompted to enter a name for the filter and you can save it under Global, Project, User or Customer scope. We recommend that you save the filter under the Global scope so that it is available for all your projects:

After saving this filter, it will automatically appear under View | Segment filter | Apply as shown in the screenshot below (if it does not appear in the list, please restart Transit NXT and check again):

Place your cursor in either the source or target language window to filter the segments in the corresponding window and select the filter. The defined filtering criteria will be applied. Note: Do not forget to  switch off a filter before applying a new filter unless you want to concatenate filters, i.e. apply a filter on an already filtered subset of segments. You can switch off the filter by clicking on View | Segment filter | Switch off as shown below. This option will be greyed out after you switch off a filter.
